• Classroom Management

Our 3 school norms and phrases we will use when referring to rules and expectations are:

    • Be responsible.
    • Be respectful.
    • Be safe.

Our 6 rules (These are 6 specific rules that students will learn that help to create a responsible, respectful, and safe environment)

    • Follow directions quickly and quietly.
    • Raise your hand to speak.
    • Listen when someone else is speaking.
    • Respect others, respect yourself, and respect your school.
    • Make your teachers happy.
    • Be safe and be honest.

In order to encourage and motivate students we will use 2 management systems:

    1. Individual - Class Dojo
    2. Class success - Compliment Chain

    Class Dojo

We use this app for a variety of tools. The most important is for POSITIVE reinforcement. The app allows us to give (green) positive points instantly when students are demonstrating positive behaviors. It makes an encouraging sound and tracks the points. This app also has the option for points to be taken away. However, we set the red points to 0 and do not take away points that were earned. These will only be given if the child does not improve after 2 reminders and an additional intervention. Parents are able to log in and track their own child’s daily, weekly, and monthly behaviors trends. I will also use this website for class reminders and newsletters.  The points will be reset daily. There are many ways to earn points throughout the day. For example, students have the opportunity to earn 3 points first thing in the morning  just for morning routine (attendance, unpacking, and morning work). Points will be tracked daily and students will have the opportunity to earn "bees" throughout the week as well as prize box opportunities when they reach goals.

    Things to Know About Dojo

    • 14-15 points represents a good day and should be the daily goal. Exceeding that represents that the students is exceeding expectations!
    • Point totals each day will track student "bees". When students fill their bee card, they recieve prize box or coupons.
    • Track points by logging in to student's dojo.
    • We will not display the class points publicly to students, however they will know their point value periodically throughout the day. I do not like to create a competitive environment, rather a supportive and group oriented classroom environment.

    10 points = 1 bee

    15-19 points = 2 bees

    20-24 = 3 bees

    25+ = 4 bees

earning a "bee" from other teachers/staff throughout the day earns additional bees on card.

    Compliment chain -

The chain begins at the ceiling. This reinforces teamwork and following rules in and out of the classroom. Each time the class receives a compliment from another staff member a link will be added to the chain. (Example: another teacher compliments the class on how nice the line is on the way to lunch.) When enough links are added and the chain touches the floor, the class will get a “treat or special activity reward” provided by the teacher :-)

    School-wide Bees

Students exhibiting great behavior will be given yellow bee certificates! These certificates can be earned on the bus, in the hallway, and any time during the school day distributed by any staff member. They put their bee in a grade-level bin throughout the week. On Fridays, a bee is pulled randomly for prizes.

    Golden Tray

Class Lunchroom reward awarded on Fridays based on week's behavior in cafeteria.

    Golden Bus

Dismissal reward awarded on Friday to the bus line exhibiting appropriate and spectacular behaviors during dismissal in the gym.
