Children will get this folder on the first day of school.*Thursday, 9/4/25, first day of school! It will be a 12:55 early dismissal day. Since the first day of school is a 12:55 early dismissal day, children will only have snack time and not lunch. Children may bring snack from home or purchase snack from the cafeteria.
*Starting Friday, 9/5/25, please send your child to school with a peanut free/ nut free snack for the afternoon everyday. Please send your child with a snack that is easy to open and eat. I recommend sending your child’s snack separately inside his/her backpack, especially if your child brings a lunchbox/lunch bag when packing lunch from home.
*Children are allowed to bring a water bottle to school.
*Please return your Library book inside your plastic bag on or before Monday, 12/8.
*Philadelphia Union Assembly Wednesday, 12/10! If you are a fan, wear your Union gear! Or if you play soccer or are a fan of soccer, wear your soccer jersey or shirt!
*Winter Concert 12/17 9:15!
*On 12:55 early dismissal days, children will only have snack time and not lunch in the morning. Children may bring snack from home or purchase snack from the cafeteria. We will not have a classroom afternoon snack time as a result of the early dismissal.
*Change of Daily Dismissal Form: Please complete the attached Change to Dismissal Form for a temporary change to student dismissal. This form helps us with a safe dismissal each afternoon.

Fundations: Unit 6: We will begin 12/3. We will read, sound out, spell, and write short vowel words with a base word and suffix s. We will mark by underlining the base word and circling the suffix s. Unit 6 story: Mack and Bugs; Unit 6 practice box words: were, are, who, what, when, where, there, here.
Reading/ELA: Fishtank ELA: We will begin Unit 3 on 12/4. Unit 3 is Amazing Animals. Please refer to Unit 3 letters that will be sent home inside your child's folder on 12/4. In this unit, students begin their exploration of animals and animal adaptations by reading a collection of nonfiction texts.

Math: Math: We will begin i-Ready Unit 2 Addition and Subtraction Within 20 on 11/3.
Unit 2 vocabulary: addend, compose, decompose, make a ten, teen numbers, explain, strategy, add, count on, doubles, equal, equation, fact family, ones, plus, tens, total.
Unit 2 Lesson 6: teen numbers (11/3-11/11).
Unit 2 Lesson 7: add three numbers (11/12-11/18).
Unit 2 Lesson 8: make a ten to add (11/19-11/25).
Unit 2 Lesson 9: use a ten to subtract (12/1-12/5).
Unit 2 Lesson 10: doubles and near doubles; doubles plus one; doubles minus one (12/8-12/12).
Science: we will learn about patterns in the sky (sun, moon, and stars) starting 9/16. November/December will include characteristics of living and nonliving things.Social Studies: some September topics that will be included in read aloud stories include: what makes a good friend, growth mindset, the zone of regulation, citizenship, school rules, Fall/Autumn. We will begin Young Citizens on 10/14. We will begin with Unit 2 and learn what you know about school. We will also learn about fire safety and ways to be respectful in October. November will also include Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.Grammar skills: September: we will review proper sentence mechanics (starting each sentence with an uppercase letter and ending with proper punctuation).
Writing skills: September: we will review proper letter formation and will write one/two sentence(s) using various sentences starters or prompts. Focus will be placed on starting each sentence with an uppercase letter and ending with proper punctuation. We will use various read alouds to learn how writers work.
