    The Daily 5

Classroom teachers at the Clark School will utilize a literacy structure based on the book The Daily 5 by Gail Boushey & Joan Moser.  Using these daily routines, students are asked to complete five tasks including read to self,  read to someone, listen to reading, writing, and word work. This Daily 5 structure allows students to select and read books based on their interest and reading level.  Research has found giving students choices in reading increases motivation, time on task, and therefore improves reading skills.  The students learn to take ownership of their learning.  This independence allows teachers time to work in small reading groups and one-on-one with students to meet students' individual learning goals
