    Spelling Lists will be posted each week as well as sent home with the students at the beginning of each week. Please study these words every night even if no Spelling homework has been assigned. Grammar will be introduced at the beginning of each week and practiced throughout the week in class. The test dates for both Spelling and Grammar will be every Friday. However, please check your child's HAB book to double check the test date for each week.

    Compound Sentences - two sentences joined by a comma and a conjunction (i.e. - and, or, but)
               *examples - Dad mowed the lawn. Mom picked up the leaves off the lawn. => Dad mowed the lawn, and Mom picked up the leaves off the lawn.  
                          - Michael likes chocolate ice cream. Jennifer likes strawberry ice cream. => Michael likes chocolate ice cream, but Jennifer likes strawberry ice cream.

    Introduction Sentences and Sentence Fragments:
     
    Sentence: a group of words that expresses a complete thought
    - Example: Sue walked to school today.
     
    Sentence Fragment: a group of words that does not express a complete thought
    - Example: My teacher.
     
    Types of Sentences and Punctuation
     
    Statement: a sentence that tells something. It ends in a period. 
    - Example: I made new friends.
     
    Question: a sentence that asks something. It ends in a question mark.
    - Example: When is the first day of school?
     
    Command: a sentence that tells or asks someone to do something. It ends with a period.
    - Example: Look at the package.
     
    Exclamation: a sentence that shows excitement or strong feeling. It ends with an exclamation mark.
    - Example: Wow, she has a new puppy!
